Founded by GMI Administrative Assistant and Dance Artist, Mijka Smith, Arts at the Great Marsh works to expand environmental awareness and education through art. This year’s event will include vendors from the local community, live performance, and educational materials about the surrounding environmental landscape.

Live Performances & Lectures
Geology Presentation with Dorothy Merritts and Robert Walter (11 AM – Nature Center)
The world-famous geologist Paul Martin (1928-2010), born in Allentown, PA, did a fascinating project at Great Marsh while a post-doctoral fellow at Yale University in the late 1950s. Join Professors Dorothy Merritts and Robert Walter of Franklin and Marshall College to learn more about their research that builds upon Paul’s amazing discoveries, examine cores of sediment from the marsh that are filled with wetland plant seeds dating back 16,000 years, and look at paleo-seeds with microscopes set up in the Nature Center.

Herping the Great Marsh with Bernard Brown (12:15 PM – Nature Center)
The Great Marsh is crawling with snakes, turtles, frogs, and salamanders, but they can be hard to observe over hundreds of acres of muck and vegetation. Learn about efforts to study the Great Marsh’s herpetological diversity.
