The wetlands, meadows, and woods of Marshlands offer a variety of habitats and living things to learn about and learn from. Learn more about attending one of Great Marsh Institute’s events and about scheduling a visit with your class, club, or youth group.

Exploring with Great Marsh Institute

Explore the extensive marsh, forest, meadows, ponds, and agricultural fields. Walk trails in forest, meadows, and along embankments through the marsh.

Help conserve the biotic communities of the Marshlands through conservation work such as propagating and planting trees and removing invasive species.

Attend Great Marsh Institute Events

Bring your group to the Great Marsh

Explore 600 acres of wetlands, forests, fields, and meadows.

Explore Marsh Creek and smaller tributaries and springs. Canoes and kayaks for use on Marsh Creek by up to 15 people in winter through early summer, depending on the water level.  

Observe birds in an Audubon Important Bird Area, 197 species observed (eBird hotspot L1770262). Study mammals, insects, reptiles, and amphibians across diverse habitats

Help conserve the biotic communities of the Marshlands through conservation work such as propagating and planting trees and removing invasive species 

Make use of the Nature Center building (with bathroom) with classroom capacity for use by a group of up to 25 people as well as a loft that can be used for sleeping. 

Make use of GMI’s nature observation and sampling tools such as binoculars, microscopes, and sampling nets.
